IssueSetting up SMS provider integration with Clickatell
There was a problem processing your request
Failed to send Message

When setting up an On-Demand Tokencodes Configuration you can test that your SMS configuration (with Clickatell) is correct.  It is possible for this to fail with the above errors displayed to the administrator.

There may be a number of reasons why this has occurred and the details below give a methodology to identify and resolve the problem.

Enable full Trace by selecting Setup>Instances, select you instance and from the context pull-down menu select Logging.  Set the Trace Log value to Verbose and click Save (this does not require any restart and take effect immediately).

Cause the problem to occur again by repeating the Test SMS Provider Integration operation.

Examine the log <INSTALLDIR>\server\logs\imsTrace.log and find lines such as the following:

2008-04-10 14:00:52,516, [[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '4' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'], (SMSPluginManagerImpl.java:166), trace.com.rsa.authmgr.internal.smsplugin.impl.SMSPluginManagerImpl, DEBUG, aceserver2.csau.ap.rsa.net, , , , Transmission plug-in Clickatell is configured for the SMStransmission mechanism
2008-04-10 14:00:52,875, [[ACTIVE] ExecuteThread: '4' for queue: 'weblogic.kernel.Default (self-tuning)'], (ClickatellPlugin.java:132), trace.com.rsa.authmgr.internal.smsplugin.impl.ClickatellPlugin, DEBUG, aceserver2.csau.ap.rsa.net, , , , Unable to send an SMS message via the Clickatell HTTP API to phone number: 61412234350
java.net.UnknownHostException: api.clickatell.com
               at java.net.InetAddress.getAllByName0(InetAddress.java:1133)
               at java.net.InetAddress.getAllByName0(InetAddress.java:1098)
               at java.net.InetAddress.getAllByName(InetAddress.java:1061)

Look through the trace log for the SMSPluginManagerImpl.java and the next few lines should help.  The problem may have different causes, in this example it is a DNS issue where api.clickatell cannot be resolved.

As a very basic test, you can launch a browser on your RSA Authentication Manager server and see what happens when you connect to https://api.clickatell.com, if everything works then you should see the following error:

403 Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Apache/2.0.52 (Red Hat) Server at api.clickatell.com Port 443

Although this is an error in the browser is does show that you can make a connection from your server to the Clickatell service.  Make sure to actually do this on a browser on the RSA Authentication Manager server itself and not on an administrative workstation!
