After upgrading from ClearTrust 5.5.3 to Access Manager 6.04, and applying Hotfix 6.0.4.41 ( 6.0.4.41), you may be unable to view smart rules in AdminGUI.  The issue also may occur in hotfix releases 6.0.4.25 up to hotfix .41.

The Eserver exception (in debug mode):

java.lang.NullPointerException
        at sirrus.da.ldap.admin.factory.LDAPSmartRuleFactory.createFilter

CauseHotfix 6.0.4.25 introduced a dependency on a parameter in LDAP.conf.   Older version of the product , specifically ClearTrust 5.5.x,  did not use this parameter, therefore migrated .conf files will not contain it.  Under the circumstance where the parameter does not exist in the ldap.conf, the null pointer exception will occur when trying to view smartrules.  
Resolution

To your ldap.conf, add the appropriate type of LDAP for the installation.   For example:

cleartrust.data.ldap.directory.activedirectory.type :activedirectory

cleartrust.data.ldap.directory.activedirectory-bind.type :activedirectory

NotesFor the directory type of "ad-adam" you must apply hotfix 6.0.4.43 or later to implement this fix.
