IssueTrying to shut down the ACE server via windows control panel ACE/server applet, getting "inconsistent state" error instead.
User sees "Inconsistent state stop ace server " when using normal windows control panel applet to shutdown ACE server after double-clicking the icon.
CauseCheck to see if brksrv has crashed. This component can crash, and other processes remain running, causing the ACE server to resist shutdown by normal means.

The fix is to fully stop, clean up lock files if present, and restart the ACE server processes. Since the control panel applet will not work, there are various ways to

accomplish this. This can be a system reboot, or via solutions presented in How to shut down connections to Progress database when the normal Start and Stop Control Panel applet is not finishing the job.
