IssueHow to allow SPS indexing service to work on a SharePoint portal protected by our webagent.
The SharePoint crawler, which crawls a SharePoint site in order to index all documents in it, is not able to perform its work after installing RSA Agent for Web in order to protect access to the portal because the portal's crawler will not be able to pass SecurID authentication.
Resolution

Follow the SharePoint environment mirroring steps from MSDN but at the end I ran into more issues now. I am will be adding this to our bug tracking system but may be a good idea for you to track in your system as well.

1. Extended the existing SharePoint web site to a new Intranet Zone with Windows authentication mode.

2. Did not configure the RSA web agent.

3. Open the search service application in SharePoint CA website.

4. Change the server name mapping URL of new extended web application to existing web application.

5. Run a Full crawl

6. Crawl completed successfully.

Workaround

As a workaround you could mirror the portal site to an additional, unprotected virtual website and the configure the crawler to create its index by scanning the unprotected site.

As this implies some security consideration and several configuration step, please make sure you implement these steps with advice of a SharePoint specialist.

Download RSA Authentication Agent 7.0 or 7.1 for Web for support on SharePoint 2007 and SharePoint 2010 on Windows 2008 and 2008 R2.
