IssueUsing WinSCP or FTP from the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) command line fails with the following error:

Disconnect from server.
Connection Failed.
OOPS: Child Died.

As root, if you attempt to change the default home directory from /home/oracle/ftp to /home/ftpuser, as below:

usermod -d /home/ftpuser ftpuser

Then the following error is seen:

500 OOPS: cannot change directory:/home/ftpuser
Login failed.

CauseAccess to home directories has been denied.

ResolutionTo resolve this issue, enable the ftp_home_dir Boolean to allow authenticated users to read and write to files in their home directories.

To enable the ftp_home_dir Boolean, run the following command as the root user:

# setsebool -P ftp_home_dir=1

NotesFor more information, review the Red Hat documentation on File Transfer protocol.
