IssueRSA NetWitness Informer login attempt fails with the error message "Failed to open the explicitly specified database."
Attempting to log into RSA NetWitness Informer results in the following error:  your login attempt was not successful please try again

The Application Log in the Windows Event Viewer displays the following error:

Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM', Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database. [Client: <local machine>]

Resolution

If both messages are received attempt the following to fix the issue.

Note: This may require you to uninstall / re-install SQL Express.

 1. Uninstall Informer from Programs and Features

    Netwitness Informer 2.0 (Remove All)

 2. Manually remove the Netwitness Informer Service in an elevated command prompt

    sc delete "Netwitness Informer Service"

 3. Move or rename the NwReporterWeb folder, under C: or D:  \inetpub\wwwroot\

 4. Install Informer as usual

  This should allow the login to the Informer Web Gui as normal.
