Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP4
Java SDK 1.3.1
Issuejava.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: java/nio/ByteBuffer
CauseThis fault occurs if you attempt to use the Java RSA ACE/Agent SDK with Java 1.3.x. The API is a Java 1.4 API, and will generate this error if Java 1.3.x is used in its place.

To correct this issue, ensure Java 1.4 is used when using the Java Authentication API 5.0.3.

NOTE: The error message will occur as a runtime error, and not as a compile time error.

There is an official statement regarding J2SE 1.3.1 from Sun Microsystems at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/download.html which states:   J2SE 1.3.1 has begun the Sun End of Life (EOL) process. The EOL transition period is from Oct 25, 2004 until March 30, 2006. With this notice, customers should now begin to move to current product versions.

NotesGiven the widespread use of Java 1.3.1 that stille xists (for example Oracle 9i uses Java 1.3.1) there might be a need to supply SecurID authentication into a Java .1.3.1 system.  It would be possible to supply the functionality by running a Web Service on something such as JBoss where the service acts as an interface to the Authentication API then a simple Web Service client stub could be used in the Java .1.3.1 application
