IssueError: "Failed to open token service.:Error in TKN library:Password validation failed" in RSA SecurID Software Token
The above error also appears when administrator tries to install it on Vista.
The software token 3.07 for Desktop is not supported on Vista or Windows 7. The software token 4.1 for Desktop will be supported on Vista and Windows 7.
CauseRSA SecurID software token (<filename>.sdtid) was created with Copy Protection and static Password Protection - this was imported successfully
System was stopped and an Ethernet device was added (e.g. a wireless PCMCIA card)
The RSA SecurID software token error: "Failed to open token service.:Error in TKN library:Password validation failed" is the correct behavior where a software token has been imported with copy protection. A function of copy protection is to check the Media Access Control (MAC) addresses of the Ethernet devices and after adding another Ethernet device the list of MAC addresses has changed.

Please refer to page 9 of the RSA SecurID Token 3.0.7 for Windows Desktops Administrator?s Guide (admin.pdf provided with the product download) for information on Issuing Software Tokens.
Resolution

Please choose one of the following to avoid the password validation failure:

1. Create and deploy software tokens without Copy Protection enabled

2. Uninstall RSA SecurID Software Token for Microsoft Windows Desktop software completely from your system, restart your system, install the latest version of RSA SecurID Software Token for Microsoft Windows Desktop software (currently version 3.0.7 which is downloadable from
here), and apply the software token again.

3. Delete the ?SoftwareTokens.DB? file under \Program Files\RSA Security\RSA SecurID Software Token\ and restart the software
