|Applies To||Installing RSA ACE/Agent 5.5 on Windows 2000 Controller with SurfControl Web Filter 4.2 software installed|
About the Product: SurfControl Web Filter enables you to quickly and easily set up and enforce an Acceptable Usage Policy for the users on your system. Installed on a Windows machine in a position where it can see all traffic to and from the Internet, it will monitor sites and block access to those sites you've specified as unsuitable for your users. Alternately, it will allow users to access the Internet for a specified amount of time or allow them to download a pre-set amount of data.
|Issue||Error: "Error Message: "Severe" "Other network authentication filter already installed."" while installing RSA ACE/Agent 5.5 on Windows 2000|
RSA Agent installation gets to almost 100%, then fails with the error: Error Message: "Severe" "Other network authentication filter already installed."
|Cause||Section 12 of the SCWF Install Guide states that on Windows 2000, the Enterprise User Monitoring (EUM) tool makes use of Microsoft's Sub Authentication to function. There is a directory c:\SurfControl User Agent with a file called scua.ini created when SurfControl EUA Agents are apparently deployed onto Domain Controllers off the SurfControl server. The registry key is in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE > JSB > SurfControl SubAuth.|
|Resolution||A workaround to this issue is an order-dependent installation. If SurfControl Enterprise is uninstalled then RSA Agent for Windows 2000 installed firsthand, SurfControl Enterprise can be reinstalled without problems.|
As it was, the RSA Agent would apparently see this SurfControl EUA as a third party authentication filter and error message out.
