IssueError: "HTTP error 404" in RSA ClearTrust when accessing page on IBM HTTP Server (IHS) after installing WebSphere FixPack 5
After installing IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 4.0 FixPack 5 AND with the ClearTrust Agent for IBM HTTP Server (IHS) installed, while serving an HTTP request (say, to serve the ClearTrust logon page), the WebSphere Plugin for IHS switches the port (if other than 80) in the request to port 80 and attempts to handle the request as if the original Web server request came on port 80. This results in an HTTP error 404 and no page is served.

If the ClearTrust Agent is disabled, the above problem does not occur, and the page is served correctly. Also, the above described problem does not occur when ClearTrust Agent is installed and a WebSphere FixPack prior to FP5 is installed.

IMPORTANT: Port 80 was not used for any virtual host on IHS, and the WebSphere plugin for IHS was not configured to handle any virtual host on port 80.
CauseThe FixPack 5 introduced a few changes in how the IBM WebSphere plugin for IBM HTTP Server (IHS) works
ResolutionTo fix this issue, apply the IBM WebSphere cumulative fix dated 06/23/03 and modify the configuration file "plugin-cfg.xml" (the WebSphere Plugin for IHS conf file) to include a couple of new introduced parameters in the <Config> tag (for more details, see the description of PQ69512 and PQ72069 in the Readme file for the WebSphere cumulative fix):

    <Config VHostMatchingCompat="true" AppServerPortPreference="WebServerPort">

Lastly, restart the IHS.
