Common questions about RSA SecurID Appliance backup procedure:

- Can the automated backup interval be changed (default once per week)?
- Do the Services need to be stopped first?
- Can the Appliance be made to store more than 1 backup rather than overwriting the backup CAB file?
IssueHow does RSA SecurID Appliance automated backup process work?
ResolutionAs standard, the backup of RSA SecurID Appliance is automated. The most recent automated backup file is always available from a fixed URL in the format https://appliance.domain.net:8098/admin/ACE/backup_dwnld.asp.

The automated backup does not require services to be stopped, since it uses the -m switch (Allow multi-user database connection. NB. This will include uncommitted data that may have been rolled back subsequent to the backup). The backup is handled by the system in the form of a scheduled task that runs via the NT Job Task Scheduler ("at" command - see Microsoft Windows documentation/help for further details); by default, it executes the script once per week. The script that runs (c:\ace\scripts\rotatebackup.bat) maintains a rotation of the last 3 database dumps, the latest of which is stored in the backup .CAB file for download via the backup URL (see example URL above).

NOTE: RSA Security does not support the customization of the automated scripting, so customizations are done at your own risk. Any modifications made to the backend scripting would be lost in the event of a system reset, so please ensure you make the necessary precautions to maintain such customizations.
