Remote Administration to ACE/Server fails
Install of remote administration software aborts with the following message, "The combined machine name and the domain name of the ACE/Server that will administer remotely cannot exceed 32 characters".
Error: "The combined machine name and the domain name of the ACE/Server that will administer remotely cannot exceed 32 characters".
|Cause||Installing Remote Administration involves that the user FTP in binary mode the server.cer and sdconf.rec files from the Master ACE/Server to a remote machine. In the event that the user improperly transfers these files in ascii mode, the Remote Administration install will abort. When using FTP to transfer files from the master ACE/Server on a UNIX platform to a Windows NT workstation, the server.cer and sdconf.rec files cannot be sent in ASCII mode. If they are, and they are examined with the sdinfo executable, there will be garbage data in all of the data fields. This garbage causes the fields to contain more characters than they normally would. When installing Remote Administration, the unreadable sdconf.rec file causes an early abort with the message. "The combined machine name and domain name of the ace server that will administer remotely exceeds 32 characters. %^^^% has <xx> [a number higher than 32] characters."|
|Resolution||Use FTP in binary mode to copy over the sdconf.rec and server.cer files to the Remote Administration machine.|
