IssueOracle 8.1.7 installer hangs or dies immediately and silently while installing on Windows 2000 Server
CauseSpecific to computers with Pentium 4 CPUs (per http://www.experts-exchange.com/Databases/Oracle/Q_21010263.html)
Resolution1. Copy the contents of the installer CD to a temp directory on your hard drive

2. Search for all instances of symcjit.dll in the temp directory; rename all those instances to symcjit.old (there should be two)

3. Run setup.exe from the install/win32 folder in your temporary directory. Proceed as normally through the installation procedure. At the end, after the installer has finished configuration, you may get modal dialogues notifying you of a memory errors for java.exe. Click OK through those errors and exit the installer.
