You can view information about the Security Analytics system version and license status.  You can also check for new versions of Security Analytics and apply the new version when it becomes available. When you receive a notification that a new version of Security Analytics is available in the Notifications Tray (see Notifications Tray in Getting Started with Security Analytics), you can click View to display version information.

Note: In order to check for a new update to Security Analytics, a valid connection to the Live CMS server must be configured. To learn more about configuring this connection, see Configure Live Settings in System Configuration.

View Security Analytics Version Information

To view the currently installed version of Security Analytics:

  1. In the Security Analytics menu, select Administration > System.
    The System Information panel is displayed by default.
  2. Click Enable.
    If an update is found, the version is listed and the Download and Apply Update button becomes available.

Update the Security Analytics Software

When a newer version of Security Analytics is available, you can update your instance to the new version. To update:

  1. In the Update Available field, select Download and Apply Update.
    A dialog warns that the update will restart the system and requests confirmation that you want to continue.
  2. Select Yes.
    A dialog displays progress as Security Analytics backs up the current software version, downloads and installs the update, and restarts Security Analytics:
    • Back up the current /var/lib/netwitness/uax/db to /var/lib/netwitness/uax/db/backup/db.bak.{TIMESTAMP}.zip
    • Back up the current /var/lib/netwitness/uax/conf to /var/lib/netwitness/uax/conf/backup/config.bak.{TIMESTAMP}.zip
    • Back up the current $JETTY_HOME/webapps/root.war to $JETTY_HOME/webapps/root.war.bak.{TIMESTAMP}.
    • Download the new root.war and copy to  $JETTY_HOME/webapps.
    • Restart Security Analytics.

Restore a Previous Version

Restoring a previous version of Security Analytics is a manual process using the command line in a terminal window. Before you restore a previous version, ensure that you have the correct backup files created. To restore a previous version:

  1. To stop Security Analytics, do one of the following:
    • For EL6, enter stop jettysrv.
    • For EL5, enter monit stop jettysrv.
      Security Analytics stops running. What happens to processes, etc.
  2. Copy $JETTY_HOME/webapps/root.war.bak.{TIMESTAMP} as $JETTY_HOME/webapps/root.war.
  3. Unzip /var/lib/netwitness/uax/db/backup/db.bak.{TIMESTAMP}.zip to /var/lib/netwitness/uax/db.
  4. Unzip /var/lib/netwitness/uax/conf/backup/config.bak.{TIMESTAMP}.zip  to /var/lib/netwitness/uax/conf.
  5. To start Security Analytics, do one of the following:
    • For EL6, enter start jettysrv.
    • For EL5 enter monit start jettysrv.
      Security Analytics starts and you can log on.
