RSA Version/Condition: 8.1
IssueThe following error is thrown upon distributing SID algorithm tokens on AM 8.1
"You must add a software token token profile before you can distribute the token.
Click Authentication-> Software Token-> Profile-> Add New

The following is however possible:
  • Ability to assign a Soft Token
  • Ability to create an AES Soft Token Profile and also delete the profile but unable to distribute the SID algorithm tokens

CauseCustomer is trying to distribute SID algorithm tokens and not AES algorithm tokens
No supporting Soft Token Profile is created, thus causing the error.

ResolutionCreate a SID 64 bit profile in Security Console > Authentication > Software Tokens > Software Token Profiles > Add New
Verify if the "Desktop PC SID-64 bit 3.0.x" is then populated under the "Device Type"

Hence, to distribute SID Tokens, appropriate SID Token profiles will have to be created and then chosen from the "Device Type" drop down list.

Notes1] AM 8.1 SP1 Patch 15 has a fix for this issue.
2] The error message is expected if no supporting soft token profiles are created.
3] To check what algorithm the software tokens belong to:
- Login to RSA Authentication Manager Primary Server's Security Console as "Super Admin"
- Go to Setup-> System Settings-> Security Console Display Options
- Under "Token List Display" -> Table Columns -> Move the attribute "Algorithm" from Hide: to Show in List and Click on "Save"
- Log off and Login to the RSA Authentication Manager Primary Server's Security Console -> Authentication-> SecurID Tokens-> Manage Existing -> "Algorithm" Column gets displayed (Displays which "Algorithm" the Tokens belong to as shown in the screenshot below)
