IssueThe customer is running RSA ACE/Server 5.2 or Authentication Manager 6.0 and needs to upgrade to Authentication Manager 8.1.
ResolutionOlder versions of RSA ACE/Server 5.x and Authentication Manager 6.0 need to be migrated first to RSA Authentication Manager 6.1 Patch 2 software allowing the data to be further migrated to RSA Authentication Manager 8.1 using the RSA Authentication Manager 6.1 to 8.1 Migration Guide.
An overview of steps to migrate the older ACE/Server data to RSA Authentication Manager 6.1.2 include:
  1. Use the RSA ACE/Server or Authentication Manager dump program to generate a server dump file, which by default is named sdserv.dmp.  The server dump file is encrypted using the unique security block placed in the license record (license.rec) when the RSA ACE/Server or Authentication Manager software was installed. Ensure you have a copy of the license record file located in the RSA_HOME\data directory so that the server database dump file can go through decryption during the migration to RSA Authentication Manager 6.1.2.  DO not overwrite the existing license.rec file in \data, as this will cause database corruption.
  2. Install RSA Authentication Manager 6.1 software as a primary instance using a copy of the RSA ACE/Server or Authentication Manager license files. The RSA Authentication Manager 6.1 for Windows Installation Guide and the RSA Authentication Manager 6.1 for UNIX Installation Guide are attached to this article to assist with the installation of RSA Authentication Manager 6.1 software.
  3. Install RSA RADIUS software on the 6.1 primary instance. The RSA RADIUS Server 6.1 Administrator’s Guide is attached to this article to assist with the installation of RSA RADIUS Server 6.1 software.
  4. If required, apply the RSA Authentication Manager 6.1 Patch 2 software to the 6.1 primary instance.
  5. Use the RSA Authentication Manager 6.1.2 database load program to merge the data into the 6.1.2 primary instance database.
  6. Use the RSA Authentication Manager 6.1.2 primary instance administrative interface to check the merged data.
With an RSA Authentication Manager 6.1.2 primary instance running with production data, an administrator can use the RSA Authentication Manager 6.1 to 8.1 Migration Guide to migrate the data to an Authentication Manager deployment running 8.1 software.
