Procedure - Log in to AWS

Note: You must have RSA NetWitness 10.6 installed on your system in order to deploy in AWS.

This topic tells you how to create an instance. An instance is a virtual server in Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) that runs an application on the Amazon Web Services infrastructure.

Note: An RSA Live account is a prerequisite for creating an instance in AWS.

To log in to AWS:

  1. From your browser, go to http://aws.amazon.com.
  2. Select Sign In to the Console.
  3. Enter your user name and password credentials.

  4. Select Sign In.

Procedure - Create an Instance

You must create an instance before you configure your remote log collector service.

Complete the following tasks to create an instance.

  • Download the CentOS 6 (x86_64) - with Updates HVM template.

  • Access Amazon EC2 Web Resources.
  • Launch the new instance in AWS.
  • Create a key pair.

Download CentOS 6 (x86_64) - with Updates HVM Template

Complete the following steps to download the CentOS 6 (x86_64) - with Updates HVM template from the Amazon Marketplace.

Note: You only need to download the CentOS 6 (x86_64) - with Updates HVM template once, which can then be used to create multiple instances.

  1. On the AWS home page, select AWS Marketplace at the bottom of the page.

    The AWS Marketplace page is displayed.

  2. In the Search window, enter CentOS 6 to search for the CentOS 6 (x86_64) - with Updates HVM template. Click Go.
  3. Click CentOS 6 (x86_64) - with Updates HVM.
    The following screen is displayed.
  4. Click Accept Software Terms & Launch with 1-Click to download the template.
    The following dialog is displayed.

  5. Click X to close this dialog box.
  6. Click Usage Instructions.

The following dialog is displayed.

Before you create an instance, you need to access Amazon EC2 Web Resources.

Access Amazon EC2 Web Resources

Complete the following steps to access Amazon EC2 Web Resources on Marketplace.

  1. Select EC2 Services to access Amazon EC2 web resources.

    The following screen is displayed.

  2. Select Instances in the left panel.

Complete the following steps to launch the new instance.

  1. Select CentOS6 (x86_64) - with Updates HVM5 template.
  2. Go to Actions > Instance State > Start.

    If the CentOS 6 (x86_64) - with Updates HVM template is in a Stopped Instance State, change the Instance State from Stop to Start.

  3. Select Launch Instance.

Create a Key Pair

To create a key pair, follow these steps:

1. Select EC2 Services.

2. In the left panel, select Key Pairs under Network and Security.

3. Select Create Key Pair and enter the key pair name.

4. After you enter the key pair name, the <keypair name>.pem file is downloaded onto your machine.

5. Use a third-party client, such as PuTTygen to generate the PuTTy Private Key File (.ppk). This file is used to connect to an AWS instance using SSH or WinSCP.
