This information was moved to the end of the Configure PAM topic as it currently only shows how to test PAM

This topic explains how to test the currently enabled External Authentication method in NetWitness Suite.

When a user logs in, NetWitness Suite first attempts to authenticate locally. If no local user is found, and External Authentication configuration using Active Directory or PAM is enabled, an attempt is made to authenticate externally. You can test the currently enabled external authentication method in the Admin > Security view > Settings tab.

To test external authentication for PAM:

  1. Go to ADMIN > Security.
The Security view is displayed with the Users tab open.
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. Under PAM Authentication, select Enable PAM Authentication.

  4. Under PAM Authentication options, click Test.
The PAM Authentication Test dialog is displayed.

  5. Type a user name and password that you want to test for authentication using the current PAM configuration.
  6. Click Test.
The external authentication method is tested to ensure connectivity.
  7. If the test does not succeed, review and edit the configuration (see Configure Active Directory or Configure PAM Login Capability).
