Issue
The PowerShell script provided with RSA Authentication Manager 8.1 Service Pack 1 cannot deploy a Hyper-V virtual appliance on a Microsoft Windows Server 2012 host machine. Running the script results in the following error message:
 
New-VM : A parameter cannot be found that matches parameter name ‘Generation’.

This issue does not affect a Hyper-V virtual appliance on a Microsoft Windows 2012 R2 host machine.
 
Resolution

To deploy a virtual appliance through the Hyper-V System Center Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) Console

  1. Copy the RSA Authentication Manager Hyper-V virtual appliance file (rsa-am-hyper-v-virtual-appliance-8.1.1.0.0.zip) to an existing Hyper-V VMM library server or a shared folder on a Microsoft Windows Server 2012 machine that can be added as a library server.
  2. Unzip the file to the current location.
  3. Download the updated create_vm.ps1 PowerShell script file attached to this article.
  4. Replace the original PowerShell script file.
  5. To deploy the Hyper-V virtual appliance, see the RSA Authentication Manager 8.1 Setup and Configuration Guide. 

To deploy a virtual appliance through the Hyper-V Manager

  1. Copy the RSA Authentication Manager Hyper-V virtual appliance file (rsa-am-hyper-v-virtual-appliance-8.1.1.0.0.zip) to a location on the Microsoft Windows 2012 Hyper-V host machine.
  2. Unzip the file to the location where you want to create the virtual appliance, but keep the original zip file.
  3. After you create the virtual appliance, running the new appliance modifies the VHD files. For each virtual appliance that you deploy, you must extract a new set of VHD files from the .zip file.  

Do not rename the VHD files that are included in the zip file.

  1. Download the updated create_vm.ps1 PowerShell script file attached to this article.
  2. Replace the original PowerShell script file.
  3. To deploy the Hyper-V virtual appliance, see the RSA Authentication Manager 8.1 Setup and Configuration Guide.
If the Hyper-V virtual appliance does not boot up (reset) after step 15 on page 32, you must manually reset the appliance.
  1. Right-click the appliance in the Action pane.
  2. Click Reset in the context menu.
