Issue

The following error is seen in /var/log/installer.log when installing RSA MFA Agent for Mac 2.0 .pkg on MacOS 26.0.1:

Install Failed: Error Domain=PKInstallErrorDomain Code=112
An error occurred while running scripts from the package "RSAMFAAgentformacOS-2.0.pkg"

Cause
A Pkg Install Error Domain Code=112 error typically signifies a failure when executing the package's scripts or a general issue with the installation process on macOS.

Common fixes include restarting your Mac, checking for sufficient disk space, re-downloading the installer to rule out corruption, and ensuring the package isn't being run from a cloud drive. For more complex situations, you might need to check system permissions, safely boot your Mac, or even erase the startup disk and reinstall macOS from a USB installer.
Resolution

Basic troubleshooting steps include:

  • A restart of the Mac can often resolve the error.
  • Confirm that you have enough free space on your startup disk for the installation to complete successfully.
  • Download the installer again to rule out a corrupt . pkg. Confirm the checksums match before kicking off the install.
  • Save the .pkg to your desktop or another local drive before running it, as installing from cloud services can cause issues.
  • Restart the Mac in Safe Mode to check if a conflict with an app or startup item is causing the issue.

Still having issues?

  • In some cases, an incorrect system date and time can cause installation failures. Check this in the Recovery environment using the date command in Terminal.
  • If your Mac is managed by an organization (e.g., using JAMF), there might be security policies or configuration profiles preventing the installation.
  • In extreme cases, especially when installing a new macOS version, you may need to erase the internal disk using Disk Utility in the macOS Utilities environment and then reinstall the operating system.
  • You can often find more specific details about the error by viewing the installation log. In the installer, press Cmd-L to show the log, then Show All Logs and save to review later.
