Last Modified: 2026-10-21

Refer to the following page for a summary of all Workflow Nodes: RSA Governance & Lifecycle Workflow Nodes Summary.

Product Area: Workflows

Workflow Node: Text

Applies to Workflow Types: All (Requests, Reviews, Rules)

Time to apply: <5 minutes

Impact: Low — the Text Node has no functional impact on workflow execution. It is purely informational and used to improve workflow readability and maintainability.

Purpose:

Text Node is used to enter descriptive or informational text into a workflow. It helps document, annotate, or explain workflow logic visually within the workflow model without impacting its execution.

Summary:

The Text Node is a non-executable element in a workflow that allows administrators and designers to add custom comments, instructions, or documentation directly onto the workflow diagram.

It is particularly useful in complex workflows, where visual guidance helps other administrators or reviewers understand the purpose and flow of various nodes.

Key use:

To insert visual notes, explanations, or descriptions into the workflow canvas to improve clarity and collaboration.

Usage:

  • Add Text Nodes anywhere in the workflow for clarity or documentation.
  • Use them to visually separate logical workflow sections.

General Notes/Benefits:

  • Helps new administrators quickly understand workflow intent
  • Provides embedded documentation — reducing the need for external notes
  • No runtime or processing impact
  • Enhances maintainability for large or complex workflows

Configuration:

Text nodes can be found under the Template Toolbar, in the Standard section on the left side panel, as shown in the image. To add a new node to your workflow, simply single-click the desired node icon in the left panel, then double-click anywhere in the main workspace to place it.

Text Node Properties - General

The General panel for a Stop Node contains a few core fields that define how the node is labeled and identified within the workflow:

  1. Name
    • This is the display name of the Text node.
    • In the image, it is shown as “Text”.
    • The name identifies the node on the workflow canvas. It is recommended to use a meaningful name that reflects the purpose of the text being displayed.
  2. Alias
    • The alias provides an internal or alternative label for the node, also shown as “Text” in the image.
  3. Description
    • This field allows you to enter the actual text or notes that the node is intended to convey.
    • It serves as an information block within the workflow and is useful for:
      • Adding explanations
      • Providing instructions
      • Documenting logic
      • Including comments for model reviewers
