NIC Message 400020
What does NIC message 400020 mean?
Resolution

This message is generated when the number of collected events exceeds the licensed EPS and built-in overflow buffer.

NIC message 400020 looks similar to this:

    %NIC-1-400020: Collector, Collector, -, -, -, -, Detail: 2316: EPS Alert - License limit of 9749 exceeded by 1367 events, 0 events dropped

For event collection, Envision provides a built-in 30% overflow buffer to your licensed EPS.

In this example, the message above shows that the number of events per second for this instance exceeded the licensed 7500 EPS by 1367 events (9749 is equivalent to 7500 * 1.3 with the first event starting at 0).

These messages may or may not be lost. The very last number (events dropped) is a cumulative value from the last NIC Collector service start that shows the total number of events dropped. As long as this value is still 0, even though you exceeded your EPS and overflow buffer, Envision still collected the events.
