At this time, you can not calculate or auto-populate cross-references. There is a Community Idea out there that will have calculated cross-references in the system but I'm not sure where that stands.
In the meantime, you can do this with a data feed to pull from one app and populate the other.
You can also do it over Custom Object while using REST API, but that will happen only in real time, and upon user action. So, Nolan is correct, A2A is all the way.
1. You need to create Report which will have 2 columns: Incident ID and IP Address.
2. Create A2A feed which will point to Assets application.
3. In Data Mapping map IP Address from report to the IP Address of the Asset, and point Incident ID to the referenced Incident field.
4. Use IP Address as a key in Assets, and Incident IP as key in Incident App.
5. Use Append and Add Unknown options.
There might be some additional things to do, like combined keys demand, but this will give you direction at least.
You will need to create some helper calculation text fields to determine the IP Address to be populated in the cross reference field that is currently empty. You will use an Archer to Archer data feed to populate the empty cross reference. Your source report will need to display the IP Address to be populated and probably include a report that has two applications together. You will have to figure out your data feed key to determine the records to be updated with this IP Address. You will only want to update the records where the cross reference is empty.
