Changed to type in rule is not working on calculation
Thanks David, now i understand why i can't get notifications to trigger when my calculated reference field is being changed. Does this mean a data-feed essentially has to be used if i am looking to trigger notifications based on a field change in a related application/module?
Notifications do work for Changed Operator for calculated fields, DDEs do not. But that also depends on field type, condition, etc. (for notification, I mean).
You could look into a bulk action schedule to trigger on the field changes. This does not require a data feed and is an easy to configure option for sending out subscription-based notifications. I use this in several questionnaires for a similar use case.
Hi Thomas, thanks for your response. I am rather new and inexperienced, but i did take a look at the bulk action schedules. I did not see the Changed To operator as something i could filter on.
Basically, i am trying to trigger a notification in Module B whenever a calculated field in module A changes. If i setup a DDE, or the filter criteria for the notification or the scheduled job to use "Contains" or "Equals", then it will shoot off notifications for all records that contain the value rather than just the ones that were changed. I also looked at trying to use the Last Updated field to just filter on records that were updated in the last day and contain a specific value, but i found that calculated field changes don't actually change the updated date. 😕
Hi Skyler -
In your use case you might need to create a new calculated cross-reference field in 'Module A' set to "Always" for the recalculation to pull in the reference. You should then be able to evaluate the change with a bulk action if you don't want to go the route of a new data feed. In my use case with the bulk actions I'm evaluating on the "Record Status" field within the same questionnaire targeted by the bulk action.
You might need to work with a calculated 'helper' field as well to ensure you're only updating the records once. For example, in my use case with bulk actions in addition to sending a notification I also set a field in the referenced questionnaire, "Yes", that I have as an additional filter for the bulk action, e.g. 'Helper field' = "No". Otherwise you could end up with a scenario where your bulk action is continually updating the same records on regular schedule.
Hope this helps.
