Create calc fields in XSLT
we have quite a few data feeds with additional fields added in that are required for the end to end process to work. These have been added in via the GUI and work fine but i am concerned that as the team grows there is the risk that someone would or could load source fields and remove these fields by mistake.
I was wondering is there a way to add the calc fields directly into the transform so then even with a load source fields they will always be there?
Max it depends on what the calcs are doing. Basic string and conditional checks can be done but if they have anything to do with date manipulation (add/subtracting days) or math you'll run into some issues.
As a work around in the description of the data feed you can put in big bold red letters that there are calculated fields in the data feed and caution needs to be taken if the source fields are loaded again.
Being this is the first tab the user will see when entering a data feed it should catch their attention
I think it might depend on the type of calculations, but you can do calculations in XSLT. I've seen examples for both math and string calculations, and I'm sure theres more.
Good point 🙂 I'll do that, in most cases they are simple if statements to allow different fields in the source report to be added depending on a field or a few now() calcs.
The now() i would like to add in if possible as we will be loading the source on that alot during DEV (we use this feed to answer a few thousand questionnaires at once) it is related to the stuff you kindly helped me with yesterday, which is working brilliantly 🙂
