Data Feed issue - changed the GVL values
I've created a global values list in my application (used GVL: Yes/No). While running the data feed we encountered the problem that values list is storing garbage values, so we restricted it in the Data feed (by enabling the option in List based fields : Add Unknown). But it changed the original GVL values list (Screen-shot attached), which have affected other applications as well where its been used.
My question is why, it changed the original GVL values? If I am not wrong, when you create the Values list as GVL it adapts the values and the properties of it, and any changes made will not effect the original GVL values.
If you were running data feeds with the option set to "Add Unknown Values", this is where your junk values came into the GVL. To clean it up, you'll need to make sure that the bad values aren't selected on any records, and then you can just delete them from the list. Then, make sure anytime you map a data feed that you are deselecting the option to "Add Unknown Values", so that if the feed value doesn't match one of the available options, it's just skipped over and not added to the list.
Thanks for the reply Scott.
Sorry for the mistake, I actually unchecked the option Add unknown. We have fixed the problem now. But I'm still looking for the answer to my question that
"why it changed the original GVL values? If I am not wrong, when you create the Values list as GVL it adapts the values and the properties of it, and any changes made will not effect the original GVL values."
There is nothing inherent in GVL that protects the original value list choices. Any user with privileges to change the list can change the original values or add or delete values. These changes will be reflected in any app and field that uses the GVL.
You can use access control to restrict which users can change a list.
