Filter Cross-Reference Look-up?
We have an application with 2 separate cross-reference look-up sections. Is there a way to add a filter for the second of the 2 cross-references when a specific option is selected in the first cross-reference? I believe there is some dynamic filtering available in version 6.5, but we are still on 6.3 P5 HF1.
Well, this is standard Dynamic Filtering which is working since v5.5 at very least
You just need some common grounds between 2 CRs to be able to filter on it.
1. Application Organization.
2. Application Division.
3. Application Team.
Make CR from Division to Team.
Make CR from Organization to Division.
Make CR from Organization to Team.
Fill in records in all applications, and make sure that Division-Team relation is added in the records.
Now you can defined Dynamic Filtering in the Team CR from Organization by using Field Value Match/Contains and selecting Division.
Or something like that. If this does not work, I can look closer to my setup and provide more details. Listed above from the top of my head.
Well, I realized I already had the cross-reference in place and this will not work for us.
Here are a few more details:
We need to be able to filter based on various records. For example:
If Department contains Finance (in the first cross-reference field), only show: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll (in the second cross-reference).
If Department contains IT (first cross-reference), only show: DBAs, Helpdesk, etc. (in the second cross-reference).
There are about 50 records in the first cross-reference application, each of these will need to be mapped to different records in the second cross-reference.
I think I was reading about the 'calculated' dynamic filtering for cross-references in version 6.5.
It seems I misunderstood initial requirement, I thought you would need filtering on Lookup, but you definitely want CR to be updated automatically with the records based on the selection. This is indeed a case for calculated CR.
But calculated CR feature was introduced in 6.4. I see the following possible options for you:
1. Upgrade to 6.4+++.
2. Make use of DataFeeds, which would fill in 2nd CR based on he selection in 1st CR.
2.1. Same approach, but different method: Like Scheduled Bulk Update.
3. Custom Object with API.
