How to exclude only a specific field from being tracked in History Log?
We are trying to exclude a specific field only from the history log tracking, but there doesn't seem to be an easier way to do this. We know the history log field can be changed to track "Selected" fields, but then any new field(s) created thereafter needs to be manually added to list of tracked fields, which does not seem to be a feasible enough option. Admins might end up missing to add new field created or when moving through packages.
We were looking for any option that helps to exclude only one specific field and keeping all others as tracked.

We have this in internal design guide. When adding new fields check with application/program owner whether new field should be part of history log tracking; answer is added as part of requirement.
That would be a nice solution for the developer to implement while working on any new addition of fields. But what if all other fields are to be tracked according to the business requirement. This goes on to become an overhead for the admins to track. And any field omitted could result in loss of data for record updates.
Say of the total 100 fields, only 1 needs to be excluded and all existing or new fields should be in the tracking list.
If there are 100 fields, with 99 to be tracked then change tracking to selected fields and uncheck the one not needed.
Then as any new field is added, decision has to be made to include in tracking or not to include. System will not add it to history tracking automatically when creating field.
Thanks Louis. Yes that is exactly the idea. To have the system keep adding the newer fields to tracking without requiring a manual intervention. It does so when "ALL" is selected as tracking type. We were hoping there could be another workaround to achieve both the goals, but it doesn't seems so for now.
Ilya has shared a link to the Idea she created for this same purpose. Feel free to vote up for it. Thanks.
