How to limit the nbr of characters from a text field that are displayed in a grid
For example on the audit engagement application the associated audit workpapers are displayed which is good. But we have a lot of text in the Program Objective field on the audit workpapers... I'd like to display about the first 100 or 200 characters of that text field vs displaying all of the text.. Then if the end user wants to see all of the text they can just click into the record and go to the source application and see all the text there..
Mary, there's currently no way to configure a report to limit the number of characters displayed for a field. Feel free to submit an https://community.rsa.com/community/products/archer-grc/ideas requesting this feature.
In the meantime you could create a calculated text field to return the specific amount of characters and display that field in the report.
You can use CSS properties such as `text-overflow: ellipsis;` to override the default style of Archer record page, either put it in CALC field or Custom Object, both should work.
Custom objects aren't listed when selecting fields for a report
Never-mind, for some reason I thought this was for a report. Calculated field would still hold true for the cross-reference/related records field.
A custom object would work targeting the specific column, calculated fields won't allow CSS syntax.
Hi David, you probably don't know that Calculated Field formula could take CSS styles as text and will be rendered correctly since it being raw output in the HTML file. We have a solution totally relying on it. For example, this progress bar is purely a calculated field with custom CSS styles:
