Populate a Text field when a Values List Item is Selected
Does anyone have a script that allows a user to click a value in a values list and populate a text box? for example:
Checkbox "Did I Click the box?"
Value entered into text field automatically: "I clicked the checkbox"
Your text box could have a calculation that references the values list.
I.e. - if([checkbox]=VALUEOF([checkbox],"ON"),"IT IS ON", if([checkbox]=VALUEOF([checkbox],"OFF"),"IT IS OFF", ""))
The 2nd statement checking if value is "off" might be redundant.
You cannot use an Event (Rule/Action) to populate a text field. You can thought have it calculate as someone pointed out. The down side is you cannot edit the text in that field anymore. Calculated fields of any type cannot be edited.
If you still needed to edit the content of the text box, you could use an Archer to Archer feed and add the logic to look for the Yes/No
(Checked/Unchecked) and then add the Static Text via the feed. This wasy you can then keep the text box editable.
Tanks for the feedback. I am trying to avoid using a data feed (I need the info populated in real time - a notification is sent immediately after the record is saved) and I also need the field to be editable when the "yes" isn't selected, so the calculated field option doesn't really work for my purposes.

I'd recommend reading all the replies, but if you look at response 18 from Daid Petty, I think you'll find specific info to your request.
There's a nuance with Archer and JS. I believe you have to reference the objects using the Archer IDs and this post should explain it better than I can.
