Rule required for 'Reminder' Generate Notification Action?
I have a 'Reminder' Generate Notification Action that sends out an email at 4:00am (the delivery is based on a Calculated Date field in my application). Do I need a corresponding Rule that will also evaluate to true on that day in order for the Notification/Action to trigger? My understanding is that Rules are only applied when a user clicks 'Save' so it doesn't seem like a Rule would be necessary in this case.

Hi Sam - yes you should set a condition for this to go if it is a Data Driven Event. Do you have a "status" field that might trigger it? If you set it up as a Subscription Notice - I believe you can have it send without any conditions set in the notification.
Jean, thank you for the response. If I am using Advanced Workflow and have 2 or more Layouts, does my DDE need to be in the "active" Layout (the Layout that the current node in the AW is using) or can my DDE be in any of the Layouts?
Sam - if you are using Advanced Workflow then the DDE needs to be in the "active" layout or all layouts. If it is in "Any Layout" it will not fire unless that is the active one.
You might try just adding as a Subscription Notification (you can set it so people can't "unsubscribe" and that way you don't need to worry about where it is in the workflow.
Got it. It looks like you can't even create 'Generate Notification' Actions in any of the non-default Layouts... Is this true?
Thanks for your help Jean!
You are correct - that is true. I guess to prevent you from setting up a DDE notification outside of the workflow. A subscription notification should still go out - so that would be what I recommend.
