Set "No Selection" or blank out selection in value list field
Hi, can you advice on following problem. We have a field that is value list with values "Yes" and "No" and its required.
Is it possible to have action that would blank out this field (set no selection). We have Archer 5.5 SP1 but in action type Set value list it not possible for us to set "no selection". So the result would be No selection and user would need to chose one of these two values before saving values. We cannot have a calculated field as user needs to modify selection.
This is a feature I would love to see in a future release, but reviewing the official RSA Archer documentation, it doesn't appear like this is something that can be done. Check out the following post about Set Values List actions here on the Archer Community (the specific statement on setting to "No Selection" is in the first bullet point😞
We all would vote for this enhancement.
But I've achieved this with a small trick/workaround:
1. First added one extra value N/A e.g. (Yes, No and N/A).
2. Created a Filter Values List where it'll always show Yes and No and always HIDE the value N/A
3. Where I wanted to clear the values I created a Set Values List to set the value to N/A.
4. When user will login they will view the values list as empty and required.
Hi Arnab Nandy,
thanks for your point and this is what we also considered, however additional value is not acceptable by business due to this value then shows in history log if user saves record with this set value.
In the scenario that Arnab describes, I don't think you can get to a case where the user could save an N/A value, as it's being filtered out by an Always True DDE Rule. Under this setup, no user should ever be able to save a record with N/A and log a history entry of it. Similarly, if the field is required at all times, then a user can also never save the record with a blank value. This would leave users with only the option of committing Yes or No answers for the history log.
Though the Filter Value List would always hide the N/A value from the users but when the Set Values List would Set the value to be N/A on certain condition (to virtually make that values list empty) then that will be logged in the History Log.
