Documentation Load Process Optimization
Idea from Gerald Pernack, Archer SE from Germany:
When you click on a file within Link, such as an implementation guide or release notes, Link generates a preview of the document. This load time for previewing in the document is really long. There are many times when I would just like to download the document itself without having to preview it. Could there be an option to "click to preview" rather than assuming the user wants to preview the doc?
Thank you for submitting this idea. The document rendering functionality is a functionality of the Jive-x platform (on which RSA Link is built) and we are fairly limited in the customization we can do with it. That being said, I have opened the internal ticket RSALINK-3655 so that my team can investigate the load time issue that you mentioned and see what we can do to improve it.
To better understand the situation, when you say that the document is taking a while to load, are you referring to the document loading within the HTML5 PDF preview frame or the document conversion process? (Both are shown in screenshots below -- click to enlarge them.)

I've needed to download many files, and I've never found the previews helpful, not even once.
If we could set a user preference to specify that we don't want or need previews for any document, I'd use that without hesitation.
If there were two links, one that gives the current behavior, and another that goes to a page that doesn't provide the preview, I'd go out of my way to use the second link.
On all uploaded PDF documents within RSA Link there is always an option to directly download the PDF, which will be in the form of a hyperlink with the document's file name just below the preview area. See the screenshot below as an example.
This option will always be present even if the preview hasn't fully rendered yet.
Yes, I believe that it is the load process for Preview Frame that takes time to load. I usually click on the file to download the actual PDF, but I've noticed that if I scroll down to do so and am working on clicking the PDF button, as soon as the Preview Frame is loaded, the screen will page back up to the Preview Frame. This means I have to scroll back down to the PDF link once again - which again lengthens the time I need to get to the file itself.
