Hi Team ,
just want to know is it necessary to Licensed ESA & Achiever for 10.6.1.0 version if not necessary then whats going to be the drawback second thing if we move to 10.6.1.5 then Licensing of the same in mandatory
If you have license type Appliance type then yes you require licenses for Archiver and ESA in 10.6.1.0 version. If you move to 10.6.1.5 . then also licenses are expected and if you have licenses then out of compliance banner will not be shown. If you don't have valid licenses the out of compliance banner will be shown in the UI but there is no loss of functionality
If the license type is throughput then you don't require licenses for Archiver and ESA.
If you have a appliance based license then you require Archiver and ESA licenses for Virtual too.
If you have throughput licenses then you don't require licenses for Archiver and ESA for Virtual.
All services need to be licensed. If you have virtual machines in 10.6.1.x you still need to purchase service (appliance) based licenses for the ESA and Archiver even if they are virtual machines. If you upgrade to 10.6.3.x or greater then you can purchase metered licenses. With metered licenses you do not purchase specifically ESA or Archiver licenses. Instead the metered licenses are for log decoders and packet decoders. Also once upgraded to 10.6.3.x or above metered licenses will allow the Netwitness UI to generate licenses for all other services that you add to your Netwitness installation no matter how many you add. The reason this happens is because metered licenses are specifically for the amount of traffic ingested by your log decoders and packet decoders. This provides flexibility for customers to use as many other physical appliances or virtual servers as they want as long as you do not exceed your metered license limit.
As mentioned by Biju, if you do not have licensing for your services you will receive a red banner warning that you are out of licensing compliance. He is also correct in that the services will continue to function if the license isn't there for the service but only if the service received a valid license in the first place.
I hope this helps answer your question.
