Calculating bandwitch between RC and D-srv
We are planning to switch our standalone ES license to an RC license and join it to a larger LS infrastructure. Before we buy the new license, we need a way to roughly calculate what the bandwidth will be between the RC and D-srv, because it would all be transferred over a 20mb circuit. Is their a calulator or rule-of-thumb that can be used to help us estimate the usage? I could use the rate of growth of our current disk usage, but I am not sure if this is an accurate estimate of what the traffic would be between devices.
I contacted support, but they said they didn't have any calculator or why have calculating the bandwidth consumption.
As far as I understand it, other than data used for the NIC.DB updates & for alerts, the collected data is transferred in the same compressed format as is used for the IPDB. Thus you should be able to get a decent rule of thumb by examining how much space is used per day on your ES.
It'd be nice if the people looking for a solution would post back here even if they found a soulution outside these forums. It would make the fora much more useful....
Patrick is correct, it is using the winSSHD client to push data through the tunnel in the IPDB format (Already compressed up to 90% percent). Now how much are a lot of variables involved. What I do recommend is putting the RC and Dsrv on a separate VLAN, and then you could institute QoS via VLAN's for flow throttling, or even do protocol QoS against syslog or SSH. Lot's of way to control and throttle bandwidth outside of enVIsion.
