Critical patch MS08-067
New enVision user here.
Anybody know on average when can we expect RSA to release/approve the critical patch ms08-067 that was released "out-of-band" yesterday?
SecureCare enVision OS updates only has up to September 2008.
See http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid=5227 or http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms08-067.mspx for details about the patch.
Most of you probably know this by now but RSA sent an advisory for this issue on October 24, 2008 4:56 PM
Dear RSA SecurCare Customer,
This SCOL Alert addresses the Microsoft security bulletin MS08-067: Vulnerability in Server service could allow remote code execution.
This Microsoft security update resolves a privately reported vulnerability in the Server service. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if an affected system received a specially crafted RPC request. On Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 systems, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability without authentication to run arbitrary code. It is possible that this vulnerability could be used in the crafting of a workable exploit. Firewall best practices and standard default firewall configurations can help protect network resources from attacks that originate outside the enterprise perimeter.
This security update is rated Critical for all supported editions of Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and rated Important for all supported editions of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. For more information about the vulnerability, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 958644.
RSA recommends that customers apply the update immediately, Microsoft's SP2 must be applied on the enVision appliance before this patch can be applied. Known issues will occur if your system has not been updated with SP2. A reboot is required and the estimated time to load the Microsoft patch is less than 2 minutes.
