Managed Devices - Multiple Device Types
I was wondering what the best practice is for a Windows Device that is an ESX server. Should there be two device types in the Device List? One device type the Vmware ESX and another the Windows NIC device type or should there be only one, the Vmware ESX device type? Thanks in advance, William
Yes, there should be 2 device types in device_list, if you want to differentiate between events from esx and windows, otherwise there will be issues in reporting etc. So mark the first device type as multi-device.
You will want to discover the ESX device type 1st and then mark as multi-device for the Windows NIC dtype to show up. In a multi-device scenario that includes Windows NIC, once Windows NIC dtype is discovered for an IP no new dtypes will auto discover. A dtype will have to be manually added.
