Modified device not reporting
There is a device that was found by envision and was listed under the Manage Monitor Devices list as Device Type Unknown. I modified it and changed it to "Analyze", from a candidate to active, as well as to the correct device type (this is the only device of this device type). I then restarted the collection service. The device type nor the device itself show up in the Analysis module drop down lists.
Is there some other service that needs to be restarted in order to see the device in the Analysis module? I am trying to view the messages that are coming in from this device, so I can make sure it is configured correctly. Is there some other method of determining what the incoming messages from this device look like? Any helps would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
When you modify a device type, it automaticlaly renders all previously collected logs as obsolete and they will no longer be viewable from the enVision GUI.
The best way to observe logs from an unknown device is to simply go to the Event Viewer (on the Analysis tab), select the Unknown device type, then the Device IP, and view the events.
It needs to send more events, and the locator service needs to pick it up.
You can try restarting the NIC Locator service to speed up the process, but also note that you need to leave the Event Viewer screen and come back to it for the pull downs to refresh.
