Querying a MSSQL DB to populate a watchlist
I'm quite new to envision and am having a doubt.
I need to make some reports based on user permissions which are stored in a MSSQL DB table.
The big issue is that I'd like to make this as automatic as possible and am wondering if it is possible (and how) to connect to MSSQL (via odbc I assume), execute a query (this might be a stored procedure) and use this data to populate a watchlist.
I'm asking this because most of the use cases I saw with databases are for grabbing DB logs and this is not such a case. I need the output of a query to populate a watchlist in envision (updated every day).
Thanks in advance,
you can easly do this using osql to query the DB via command line and output the result into a text file now if you look up at the watchlist topic that somene asked i've added a script and explnation on how to do a dynamic update to a watchlist.
all you need to do is create a small batch that run the osql command and than dynamic updates the watchlist, put it up in a schedule task and you're all set.
hope this helps
