An all too easy way to cause AFX startup problems is to start the AFX server as root rather than a less privileged user such as oracle.
This demo shows why an administrator might be inclined to start AFX as root, how the problem may present itself, and how to recover.
wouldn't it be possible to check in the AFX startup routine what user is calling it and if it is root, exit with a easy to understand error message?
