Will purge continue after app server is stopped and restarted
Im running a purge after discovering that its has not run for nearly 2 years. Understandably this will take some time to process and has currently been running for 3 hours so far and is still on step 2.
We have a crontab job that stops the application server prior to backing up the database.
My question is if the purge process is running when the application is brought down, will it continue once the application is back up?
Also is there a way to pause the purge if it continues through office working hours?
We are using 7.1.0 patch 2

Just found out that the purge will run for a maximum of 4hrs then skips all the rest of the tasks. Will need to run this each evening until the purge has been fully completed

Purging is pretty database intensive and can cause performance issues if it overlaps data collections especially Rule generation of change requests. Use judgment as to when you run it.
If you do not do collections on weekends this is also a good time to schedule it and you can run it for longer.
You are correct however, it may take some time to catch up.
You can tell when it has caught up when the runs stop before the (configurable) 4 hour timeout.
