Preferred method to migrate RSA Auth Mgr VM to new vSphere

Hi All,

We're currently running RSA Authentication Manager v8.1.0.0.0-build1364817 in a vSphere 5.5 environment running on individual HP servers.  We're migrating to a new infrastructure, vSphere 6, running on Cisco UCS blade servers.

Is there a preferred method for migrating the authentication manager VM from one vSphere infrastructure to another?

It cannot really be said there is a 'preferred method'. There are multiple ways to do it. It depends on what your setup is capable of.

a) vMotion or DRS or snapshots

b) set up a new replica in the new environment, promote it to take place of primary, delete old primary

c) set up a new primary, backup the old, restore backup to the new one

One risk of taking the snapshot or image and moving it, is the system fingerprint will no longer match.

Hi not sure about vmware.. but I've moved primary from one Hyper-V host to another Hyper-V host.

The procedure is basically to shutdown VM.. export it... then import it into new host and check that MAC address of NIC is the same, if MAC address changes RSA AM won't be able to apply network settings to eth0.

I think you can manually set MAC address in vmware.

Oh and BTW I suggest you upgrade to latest AM 8.2 Patch 5 release because of security bugs with previous releases.
