RSA SecurID Hardware Appliance Firmware Update
With regards to the firmware update I received yesterday:
If the appliances are unix boxes, why does the readme.txt file refer to Windows requirements?
Am I missing something?
Are there release notes that better explain the reason for this update & instructions on how to install it?

It is not the BIOS itself, but the BDP Bios Distribution Package tool.
The BIOS update needs to be prepared on Windows, to make a bootable USB or CDROM.
This readme file contains information about the BIOS Distribution Package (BDP) running Microsoft Windows operating systems. The BIOS Distribution Package offers new levels of ease and flexibility for creating bootable media for updating BIOS outside of the customer operating system.
When you run the ***BDP.exe, that is a self-extractor and all the components and readme.txt are produced.
When the application starts, a dialog box is displayed where you can choose the media type to be created. Supported media types include: USB flash drives and CDs.
example: attached below is the readme.txt for updating a Dell R210
