AM Backup/restore

Jump to solution

Hello,

If we want to replace a hardware primary with a new VM one but then retain the same IP/hostname, can we just take a backup of the old one, then power it off then restore to the new one (or restore then power off), then change the IP/hostname?

Thank you.

Hello Walid,

This is totally works without any problems, just do a backup from your old primary AM restore it in the new AM and everything should be working as expected, the good thing here is that you can still revert back to the old environment if any mess happened while restoring the data on the new environment.

 Thanks.

Hello Walid,

I would recommend you to :
- Promote your Replica to Primary
- Delete the old Primary (which is now a Replica)
- Deploy a new Replica (with the settings you want to keep)
- Promote the newly deployed Replica to Primary

Kind Regards,

David

Hi David,

Thank you for your answer. The main thing is that we have 1 Primary and 3 replicas and we want to replace the replicas as well after the primary, but this is this is a production environment and we want to leave the old environment untouched in case something happens and we need to back out. That is why the backup/restore seems to be the less risky option, and since we are turning off the old appliances, they should not interfere with the new deployment. Are there any specific concerns with this approach?
