Authentication Manager 8.2 SP1 applied and now we have new users

We recently applied patch 1 to Authentication Manger 8.2. The patch appeared to have added new users called games, news and uucp. Are these required? If not, can they be removed?

As part of a government regulation we must screen shot various things before and after updates. The passwd and shadow files show these new users. If they can be removed, that would be great. Otherwise we have to go through a whole process to add them to the required users list.

Hi Carla:  We've verified those usernames showing up after P1.  We will update with a resolution as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Do you recommend waiting to apply P1 until you present the resolution?

Those accounts are not needed, they are an artifact of us upgrading the OS from Suse 11.3 to 11.4. They are low level accounts and you would need someone to log in as rsaadmin and then become root and intentionally do some functions on the system to make these accounts present any harm or danger to the system. They can be ignored.

Will these accounts be removed in the next release or will they be present in subsequent releases? We are also subject to governmental regulations that require us to be able to justify any changes made to system access.

I too have the same compliance regulations and needed answers.  I also found a new service added (snmptrapd; status is unused) that was not previously present.  I opened a ticket after applying P1 and the response i have gotten thus far is the accounts will be removed with P3 (unofficially coming in Nov.)

I have additional questions about this in my ticket and will try to post when i get a response.

Kevin, thanks for the info. We ended up deleting the new accounts and groups for now. Hopefully they will be removed in P3 as you mention.

Support has confirmed that the users (all disabled) will be removed in P3 (but no confirmation on when that will be.)
