Migrating Hardware Appliance to VM

Jump to solution

Hi Team,

We have 3 Physical Appliances (say A, B and C) currently in production.

A is primary and B&C are replicas.

We need to replace A&B with new Hardware Appliances and  C with a VM Appliance.

Please note that we cannot afford downtime in this activity.

How can we achieve this without downtime as well as without changing the IP addresses

WARNING: this is a very simplified, high-level version of the process.  If this looks mysterious, or like too many parts are missing, you should consider engaging Professional Services to help plan and carry out the operation.

IF the new appliances are the same version as the old, you can add one of them as a new Replica, then promote it -- use the maintenance promotion if you want to keep the logs. Shut down the old primary, then change the hostname and ip of the new Primary.  Add the other two appliances as replicas, shut down the old replicas, and rename and re-ip the new replicas.
