Question on patching

Jump to solution

Hello,

Is there any issue with going from 8.4 patch 7 to 8.4 patch 9?  Typically we apply the next patch up and don't skip.  My understanding is the RSA patches are cumulative.  Is it best practice to only go to the next patch level?

The 8.4 patches are all roll-ups (cumulative), so you can skip a level (even multiple levels) with no problem.  If you have webtiers, there isn't always a matching webtier patch, so read the release notes carefully to see if you also need to update your webtiers.

Based on what's listed on the AM 8.4 Downloads page

https://community.rsa.com/community/products/securid/authentication-manager/downloads

If you are currently at AM 8.4 P7, and had a Web Tier, you would have installed the AM 8.4 P4 Web Tier, as there is no Web Tier install at patches 5-9 for AM 8.4.

Likewise, if you apply patch 9 instead of patch 8, there is no Web Tier for either, so if you have web tiers at most you just click the update button on the Web Tier page in the Ops Console - there is nothing to install.

But you could, following the roll-up rule, just apply AM 8.4 Patch 10 to your current AM 8.4 P7.  There is a Web Tier install at patch 10, therefore if you had Web Tiers and applied patch 10, you would uninstall your Web Tiers and install the new AM 8.4 P10 Web Tier.
