Replication Question after Primary Upgrade

Jump to solution

We are running Authentication Manager 8.1 and I am planning an Upgrade to 8.2.2

My question is

If I upgrade the Primary from

8.1  --->   8.1.1

then

8.1.1   ---->   8.2

then

8.2    ---->   8.2.2

Does my Replicas have to be upgraded to 8.2.2 before they will replicate with the Primary, or will they continue to replicate even if they are still on a lower code level

Thanks

The point where replication will not work is when the primary is 8.2.x or above and the

replica(s) is/are lower than 8.2...[ 8.1.x.] Always install any new patch number on primary first. Never make

a replica a higher patch version than it's primary.

Thanks Edward

So would you recommend upgrading

The Primary to 8.1.1 then upgrading all the replica's to 8.1.1

Then Upgrading the Primary to 8.2 and then the Replica's to 8.2

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Or just upgrade the Primary 8.1 to 8.1.1 then 8.2 then 8.2.2

then upgrading the replica's all the way up to 8.2.2

In our lab we have tried it both way Conor.  But the official recommendation to us was to keep the primary and replica at the same level at each step.

Upgrade the primary to 8.1.1 then the replica.

Upgrade the primary to 8.2 then the replica.

Upgrade the primary to 8.2.2 then the replica.

Each time making sure replication resumed after each incremental step.

But like I said.  We also took a 8.1.1 primary to 8.2 then 8.2.2.  Then went back and took the replica to 8.2 then 8.2.2 and replication resumed.  Technically replication resumed as soon as we took the replica to 8.2.  Which would make sense based on Edward's initial note.
