Summary of what fixed this. We imaged the machine from bootable DVD, but it was one of the newest hardware platforms, that earlier versions of Auth Manager could not recognize. The 8.2 sp1 factory image (8.2.1.0.0) was required as the lowest version that could perform the reimaging.

I would recommend calling Customer Support (CS).
You did not mention what type of RSA Authentication Manager you were trying to "install". As the product is an appliance, I would probably just start again with a new appliance image. If you were using a hardware appliance, CS should be able to provide an appropriate appliance image for your hardware.
To change the host name, you should be using the Operations Console interface under Administration > Network > Appliance Network Settings. Enter a new host name in the "Fully Qualified Domain Name" field and click "Next".

Jeff,
As Piers pointed out, it's an appliance so you cannot change the name in Linux, it will break as we bind FQDN to a device Identity Cert.
If you can undo your name change you might get it to work again, but deploying a new VM could be quicker.

You will need an open support case for us to send an image, or you need access to RSA Link full version downloads area to get the full images. Without an open case, or your own account access to the download site, we cannot send out full images to anyone.
I see you do have an open case.... I will fire an email to you immediately. sent.
