Upgrade from RSA Authentication Manager 7.1 SP4 to Authentication Manager 8.4

Jump to solution

Dear madam/sir,

We are using RSA through Oracle Weblogic. As we know the Oracle Weblogic is from the RSA Authentication Manager, does it possible to upgrade our existing RSA Authentication Manager directly from 7.1 SP4 to 8.4?

No direct upgrade possible. You need to get the 7.1 data into a migration package, and import that to

some version of 8.1.x.x.x. 8.2 and higher cannot import data from 7.1, only 8.1.x.x.x has the ability.

Here is what is needed: request license upgrade and indicate you are migrating from 7.1 to 8.1 so your license will be an 8.1 license. [If you get an 8.4 license, that cannot set up an 8.1 Primary, but an 8.1 license can set up an 8.4 primary if you need one later...]

a) install/setup 8.1.0.0.0

b) patch to 8.1.1.0.0

c) patch to 8.1.1.15.0*

RSA Authentication Manager 8.1 Downloads

d) inside the 8.1.1.15.0 patch zip file are migration tools for 7.1 migration, use these

(*8.1.0.0.0 also has early migration tools that will work too, but 8.1.1.15.0 is the latest version

and if you encounter any bugs using 8.1.0.0.0 tools, then you'd need to try 8.1.1.15.0 anyhow)

RSA Authentication Manager 7.1 to 8.1 - Migrating to a New Hardware or Virtual Appliance

e) 8.1.x Operations Console has option to import a 7.1 migration file

TIP: make a backup of 8.1.1.15.0 before you migrate any 7.1 data. If there are problems with the 7.1-8.1 migration, it cannot

simply be deleted or undone and tried again. To -undo- a migration, you are better off restoring the backup made prior to migration attempt.

f) Now you have 8.1.1.15.0 with all your 7.1 users and settings

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

g) next, this can be patched up to 8.2.0.0.0, then 8.2.1.0.0

h) When 8.5 is released, 8.5 will be able to upgrade direct from 8.2.1.0.0, so you can leap to 8.5**

**8.5 will the first version of 8.x that will be able to import data from a different 8.x version. Prior to 8.5, all 8.x versions

can only import data from a different 8.x system if they are the same exact patch and rev (all 5 version digits match)

i) If you want to be on the latest version today, before 8.5 is out...you will need to go from

8.2.1.0.0.0 > 8.3.0.0.0 > 8.4.0.0.0 > 8.4.0.13.0

Tenny Hui‌,

I've moved your question to the RSA SecurID Access" data-type="space space where it will be seen by the product's support engineers, other customers and partners.  Please bookmark this page and use it when you have product-specific questions.

Alternatively, from the RSA Customer Support page, click on Ask A Question on the blue navigation bar and choose Ask A Product Related Question.  From there, scroll to RSA SecurID Access" data-type="space and click Ask A Question.  That way your question will appear in the correct space.

Tenny Hui‌,

Edward Davis‌ provided a comprehensive answer to your question.  The doc entitled https://community.rsa.com/docs/DOC-100620 may also be of assistance.

HI Edward,

Good response. We planning to migrate from RSA AM 8.3 appliance to RSA AM virtual appliance. Can you please provide any documentation around the process to migrate users??

Thanks

Mo
